NCD Child at the ECOSOC Annual Ministerial Review
On 6 July 2012, NCD Child collaborated with UNICEF and PAHO to conduct a Ministerial Roundtable at the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Annual Ministerial Review. The Roundtable focused on 'Working Well! Safe- guarding adolescent and youth livelihood in the face of NCDs and their risk factors'. NCD Child released an Issues Paper to coincide with the event. The Issues Paper explored the impact of NCDs on adolescent and young people's participation in the workforce, the underlying risk factors and recommendations about policy decisions that would enable the prevention and mitigation of the impact of NCDs on young people's capacity to enjoy their right to work.
The event was marked by the announcement by Dr. Nicholas Alipui, Director of UNICEF Programmes, that the agency has decided to update its global publication, "Facts for Life", to include for the first time information about NCDs in children and adolescents. Dr. Alipui said that by updating "Facts for Life" with information about NCDs, ordinary people the world over will have access to vital information they need about preventing NCDs in children and adolescents, as well as non-technical information about diagnosis and treatment.
This video was produced by CLAN (Caring & Living As Neighbours) to help communicate with grassroots groups the advocacy being undertaken internationally to help children (and their families) who are living with chronic health conditions in resource poor countries. It was first screened to Diabetes and Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH) communities in Hanoi at Club meetings held at the National Hospital of Pediatrics in mid July 2012.
