A New Era for Action: The Sustainable Development Goals (2015)

In September 2015, the United Nations (UN) General Assembly, with the global community looking on, adopted the new global agenda for sustainable development. Presenting and approving an outcome document titled, “Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development,” the Assembly gave way to a new era in meeting global challenges. In the outcome document, a Declaration of the Assembly states, “On behalf of the peoples we serve, we have adopted a historic decision on a comprehensive, far-reaching and people-centered set of universal and transformative goals and targets,” and goes on to confirm that “the new Agenda builds on the Millennium Development Goals and seeks to complete what these did not achieve, particularly in reaching the most vulnerable.”
